From Waste to Work: Taking Action on Ocean Plastics

The United Nations projects that by 2050 over two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. Ninety percent of that increase will take place in Asia and Africa, where rapidly urbanizing regions may lack waste management systems and infrastructure.

Locally mismanaged plastic waste has global impacts on the health of our oceans and economies. Concentrating efforts at the heart of the global challenge to curb plastic waste in oceans, USAID is working in four countries that are among the largest producers of mismanaged plastic waste  ̶  Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka  ̶  to strengthen public and private partnerships that help local governments manage waste.
