Photo Feature: Municipal Waste Recycling Program

November 5, 2018

Eight million tons of plastic waste are discarded into the word’s ocean annually- the equivalent of dumping an entire garage struck of plastic into the ocean every minute. While the challenge of ocean plastics is global, waste management systems are typically local. So, USAID is working at the municipal level to improve recycling systems, infrastructure, and value chains to stop plastic pollution at its source. USAID’s Municipal Waste Recycling Program is currently working in four of the world’s largest contributors to ocean plastic pollution: Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka.
