Ocean Plastic Pollution

The USAID Mission for Sri Lanka and Maldives released a request for proposal on February 3, 2022, for a flagship Ocean Plastics Reduction project. The project aims to reduce plastics available to the environment, by reducing plastics inputs and improving integrated solid waste management (SWM) practices, with an emphasis on reduction of ocean plastics pollution in Sri Lanka and Maldives.

The project has four complementary objectives:

  1. Reduce reliance on virgin plastic inputs and products;
  2. Professionalize, improve and expand SWM, with a focus on reducing plastics available to the environment;
  3. Empower communities to drive local SWM solutions; and
  4. Strengthen the enabling environment for SWM with an emphasis on reducing ocean plastics.

Proposals are due March 10, 2022, award will be prior to September 30, 2022.

See the full request for proposals here.
