MWRP Philippines: Educating Millions on Ocean Plastic Pollution via Metro Manila’s Shopping Malls

With a small grant from USAID’s Municipal Waste Recycling Program, the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PRRCFI) has increased coastal communities’ awareness of ocean plastic pollution’s adverse effects and shared educational messages and tools for plastic waste reduction and recycling in locations with millions of daily visitors.

Much of the Philippines’ solid waste ends up in open dump sites, often leaking into waterways. The Philippines—with more than 7,000 islands and 106 million people—is among the largest contributors of ocean plastic pollution, generating 750,000 metric tons of waste annually.
