Municipal Waste Recycling Program

USAID grantee Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc (PRRCFI) implemented the Sea Waste Education to Eradicate Plastic (SWEEP) program on Negros Island in the Philippines. The grant, which concluded in March 2020, contributed to PRRCFI’s participatory, data driven approaches to reducing single use plastics. One of the program’s major successes was a series of design thinking workshops to develop and pilot zero-waste sari-sari stores (small neighborhood convenience stores).

In this update, PRRCFI Executive Director Dave Albao provides some insights about the methodology behind the program approach, and how it builds on community values.
