Solid Waste Management and Recycling

Municipal Waste Recycling Program

Gaps in Ha Long City’s existing solid waste management system and direct disposal of uncollected waste into the ocean are contributing to plastics pollution in Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As a popular tourist destination, growing pollution in the bay damages the long-term value of this site as a key contributor to the local economy through tourism and its adjacent markets.

By using a variety of public-private-community partnership models, the project tests innovative approaches to collect, sort, and treat both on-shore and near-shore waste.
